Statement Emma Stephens

I am a printmaker and designer! Online I go by the name Spoons and Violets.

I specialize in a technique called the Whiteline Color Woodcut, an American printmaking technique that uses watercolor to create multi-color prints with only a single block.

Much of my work focuses on our connection to the spaces we inhabit. My images are often accompanied by the written word and are journalistic in nature. I believe that places and objects have the capacity for memory and I strive to capture that snippet of a story they hold, real or fictional. I love to document the mundane things that make up my life, the things that will blur away if you don’t hold on tight.
